Tarea corta: 

1) You have decided to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper regarding recycling bins.
The beginning and the ending of the letter have been done for you. Add 100-120 words.

I was extremely pleased when our local council eventually placed special bins in the area to
encourage recycling. There are, however, several problems.
For one thing,

I do think that these suggestions might help solve the situation. The rest depends both on the
council and on our neighbours’ willingness to act in a more civilised manner.

3) You have received the following letter from your English-speaking friend:

  • Motivation for studying English; length of time studying English; strengths and weaknesses in the language.
  • Preferred start date and length of course.
  • Hobbies and interests.
We will contact you once we have received your details in order to arrange a programme of study for you.

2) Your local authority is planning to build a disco in your area, between the primary school and the health centre. Send in an article to your local magazine stating your opinion. Include the following points:

  • What is your opinion about the project?
  • What would be the impact on the community?
  • Is there a better location?
  • Possible solution(s).

12) You have moved to the UK, and the Parent Teacher Association from the local school is worried about binge drinking -consuming large quantities of alcoholic drinks in a single session- in the town. To find out how the problem is dealt with in other places, they have asked foreign residents for information about the situation in their countries of origin. Here is some information about the situation in the UK and other countries:

UK adults and adolescents are among the worst binge drinkers in Europe, says an Institute of Alcohol Studies report. The average rate of binge drinking in the UK is about once every 13 days. The report found that alcohol is one of the worst public health problems in Europe after tobacco and high blood pressure, and has a greater impact than obesity, lack of exercise or illicit drugs.

Write a report for the Parent Teacher Association about the situation in your country.You must develop the following three points, in the most appropriate order:
• Present a detailed description of the situation in your home country, highlighting the most significant aspects.
• Mention possible causes and propose measures to improve the situation.
• Make predictions about the consequences of this problem.
Write between 200 and 230 words. Texts with less than 200 or more than 230 words will not be marked.
You must include all three points.

1) A local newspaper has invited readers to submit proposals recommending a range of facilities for young people in your town. always interested me.

2) A tourist company which organises coach tours of your home town has placed the following advertisement in your local newspaper:


Are you an outgoing and sociable person, who has a good command of English and some knowledge of local history? If so, then we would like to hear from you!

Take-a-Tour is setting up a branch in your area and we are looking for tour guides to accompany up to fifty passengers a time on our coach tours. Your duties will include welcoming passengers aboard the coach, giving a commentary about the local sights, and taking small groups around the town on foot.

4) You have read the following information from a British university, and have decided to apply for a course:

6) You are interested in applying for this MBA (Master of Business Administration). Read the advertisement and write an e-mail of application (130-140 words).

7) Read the instructions below carefully and write an email of complaint of 120-150 words. Make a complaint on the British Airways website about the conditions on your return flight from London to the Canary Islands.
Include the following points:
• Complain about an error in your meal request on board
• Describe the inappropriate way in which a flight attendant talked to you
• Ask for some type of compensation

8) You live in a small village of about 1,500 inhabitants. You use public transport as much as possible. British Rail, in the name of efficiency and economy, wants to close the village station. This means the nearest train station will be in the town 20 minutes drive away.

2) The government wants to keep primary schools open all year round so working parents can combine childcare and work. You have decided to write an article for the parents’association magazine stating your opinion. Include the following points:

  • Effectiveness.
  • Impact on adults.
  • Impact on children.
